Ship to Undergo Extensive, Multi-Million-Dollar Upgrade Prior to Arrival Down Under
MIAMI (August 5, 2013) – Prior to its deployment to Australia in fall
2014, Carnival Legend will operate two unique and exciting cruises – a
13-day Panama Canal
cruise and a 23-day trans-Pacific voyage – that will serve to position
the vessel for its new seasonal schedule from Down Under.
The 13-day Panama Canal cruise will depart Tampa, Fla., Aug. 17 and
arrive in Long Beach, Calif., Aug. 30, 2014. Carnival Legend will visit
George Town, Grand
Cayman; and Cartagena, Colombia; prior to the Panama Canal transit
followed by day-long calls to Puntarenas, Costa Rica; and Cabo San
Lucas, Mexico.
Carnival Legend will then operate a 23-day trans-Pacific voyage that
departs from Long Beach Aug. 30, arrives in Sydney, Australia, Sept. 22,
2014. In addition
to the unforgettable crossing of the equator that includes all the
traditional maritime celebrations, the voyage will feature extended
visits to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Papeete (Tahiti), Bora Bora and
Moorea, French Polynesia; Suva, Fiji Islands; and Noumea,
New Caledonia.
The two voyages can be combined to create a one-of-a-kind 36-day cruise
that features 10 scenic destinations across three continents.
Prior to these voyages, Carnival Legend will undergo a multi-million
dollar renovation that will add an array of innovations that are part of
the line’s Fun Ship
2.0 product enhancement program. These include a massive WaterWorks
aqua park highlighted by Green Thunder, the steepest and fastest
waterslide at sea, the tropics-inspired RedFrog Pub, a full-service
sushi restaurant called Bonsai Sushi, and Cherry On Top,
a “candy and more store” with various confections, apparel and novelty
items. These new offerings complement such popular options as the
Serenity adults-only retreat, an expansive health and wellness center,
and fun activities and spacious, modern play areas
for kids in three age groups.
“This is an incredible opportunity for guests to visit some of the
world’s most majestic and awe-inspiring destinations, from breathtaking
beaches in Mexico and
the Caribbean to tropical Polynesian paradises, as well as the
unforgettable experiences of transiting the Panama Canal and crossing
the equator,” said Gerry Cahill, Carnival president and CEO. “These two
voyages also provide guests a chance to be among the
first to check out all the fantastic additions that are being added to
Carnival Legend as part of our fleetwide Fun Ship 2.0 product
enhancement initiative,” he added.
The trans-Pacific crossing will position Carnival Legend for a seasonal
program from Australia that kicks off Sept. 24, 2014, and encompasses
eight- to 12-day
cruises from Sydney calling at a variety of destinations within the
Pacific, including New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji.
Reservations are currently being accepted for all of these Carnival Legend’s departures.
