Expedition Cruise Line Celebrates End of Brazilian Visas
with Revamped Tours
Toucan |
JAMESTOWN, RI – In celebration of the end of
the visa requirement to Brazil, Amazon Nature Tours,
a small ship expedition company that sails further into the Brazilian Amazon
basin than any other line, has introduced new “Into the Wild” four-day
sailings.
These sailings are an enhancement of their previous shorter
cruises, going deeper into the Amazon basin and allowing guests a greater
opportunity to explore the dense forests and small tributaries within the
UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site, The Central Amazon Conservation Complex.
Amazon Nature Tours is the only line to offer four- and
six-day sailings in the Brazilian Amazon basin, exploring the least inhabited
major river in the Amazon basin, the Rio Negro. While most lines sail the
Peruvian Amazon or do day trips on the Brazil side, Amazon Nature Tours goes
far into the Brazilian rain forest.
These true expedition cruises are led
by trained naturalists and include kayak and launch excursions into the
“flooded forests,” rainforest hikes, visits to native villages, fishing for
piranhas, outings to the beach and more. Highlights of the four-day trip
include:
Calling howler |
- Deep
wilderness exploration far from other travelers and human settlement
- The
Anavilhanas Archipelago, a reserve that includes the world’s largest system of
river islands and also areas of tall dense rainforest called the igapó, the
black water flooded forest where dense forests grow right out of the dark water
of the Rio Negro.
- “Encontra das Aguas,” a stark several mile-long line where two of the world’s largest rivers, the Amazon and the Rio Negro, join in a turbulent maelstrom. Here the dark water of the Negro runs beside the opaque brown water of the Amazon.
- Search for
nocturnal creatures such as the Caiman, the Amazon’s crocodiles, and the large
night birds such as a Potoo,
with its bulging eyes and large mouth adapted to swallow the huge Mariposa moths
While the four-day sailings explore more of the region than
before, the price has remained unchanged, with rates starting at $1,750 per
person.
Guests sail on the Motor Yacht Tucano, an 18-passenger boat that
has been completely refitted to make it one of the most sustainable vessels in
the region. A significant portion of the energy used on board is generated by
solar panels. Solar energy is used to heat water for showers, refrigeration in
the galley, to make ice, and to power the ship's launches. There are
“solar hours” each day, when all generators are turned off and the ship
operates by solar energy alone.
Amazon Nature Tours has eliminated all plastic
onboard and now provides guests with complimentary, reusable aluminum water
bottles that can be refilled at large dispensers. All staff, food and
linens are sourced locally. For these efforts, the company received the
Latin American Travel Association Sustainability Achievement Award for Latten
America's most sustainable tour operator.
“The Brazilian Amazon is one of the greatest ecosystems in
the world and still largely undiscovered,” said Mark Baker, President of Amazon
Nature Tours. “We hope that the elimination of the visa requirement makes
it easier and more enticing for travelers to visit Brazil and explore its
magical rain forest.
Our four night "Into the Wild" expedition
cruises enable travelers to have an authentic experience within the Amazon
wilderness and still be able to experience some of the other iconic
destinations within Brazil. And for those that would like the quintessential
Amazon expedition cruises, we also operate a six-night cruise that explores
some of the farthest reaches of the remote Amazon rainforest.”
The expedition cruises of Amazon Nature Tours go farther and
deeper into the rainforest than any other cruise vessel - anywhere in the
Amazon. The voyages explore deep into a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site in
the least inhabited major river system in all the Amazon Basin, the Rio Negro
--- and out there, among the greatest collection of flora and fauna in the
world, it's just the passengers and guides.
The area where guests explore has
one of the most varied environments of any place in the entire Amazon. There is
high forest with towering trees, mysterious flooded forests that stretch for
miles upon miles of dark still water, grasslands where crocodiles rest in the
day, and at a certain times of year, there are beautiful deserted beaches
stretching as far as the eye can see. This is one of the most beautiful parts
of all the Amazon.
Amazon Nature Tours operates four-night “Into the Wild” and
six-night “Voyage to the Heart of the Amazon” sailings on the Motor Yacht
Tucano round-trip from Manaus, Brazil year-round. The nine outside
staterooms offer five large double, two single, and two double-berth
rooms. Pre- and post-city and historic tours of Manaus are also
available. For more information or to book a sailing, visit www.amazon-nature-tours.com.

About Amazon Nature Tours / Ecotour Expeditions, Inc.
Amazon Nature Tours / Ecotour Expeditions, Inc. began in the
early 1980's as company importing tropical lumber from the Amazon. Its founder
and President, Mark Baker, imported lumber from sawmills in the rainforests of
the Amazon and distributed it to manufacturers and lumber outlets in the United
States. But by 1988 Baker became convinced that rainforest conservation was one
of the most important goals of our time, so in 1989, he closed the lumber
company and began to offer some of the first "ecotours" in the entire
tourism industry.
On the Motor Yacht Tucano travelers can voyage deep
into remote wilderness in considerable comfort and style. Cruises on the ship offer
intensive and authentic wilderness exploration, but with comfort and elegance.
The company is based in the State of Rhode Island with offices in Manaus,
Brazil.
