Cunard hosts fundraiser event on board Queen Victoria for the National Museum of the Royal Navy

13 April 2015 – On Monday, 6 April 2015, Cunard hosted the National Museum of the Royal Navy’s Victory is Ours! fundraising luncheon aboard Queen Victoria, during the ship’s call to Los Angeles as she continues on her World Voyage.
From L-R:Stanley Birge, vice president, Cunard, North America, with Vice Admiral Sir Adrian Johns; Friend of the National Museum of the Royal Navy; Commodore Christopher Rynd; Professor Dominic Tweddle, director general of the National Museum of the Royal Navy.
The event was held in aid of the multi-million dollar campaign required for the preservation and conservation of the HMS Victory, one of the world’s most famous warships.

At the event, the “Face of Nelson” was present for attendees to view. The Life Mask cast from Admiral Lord Nelson’s face in 1798 is one of only four in existence, and it is the only one in the world capable of coming to the United States of America.

The luncheon featured keynote speakers Vice Admiral Sir Adrian Johns, and Professor Dominic Tweddle, director general of the National Museum of the Royal Navy. Stanley Birge, vice president of Cunard, North America, and master of Queen Victoria Commodore Christopher Rynd was also in attendance.

We are very pleased to support the mission of the National Museum of the Royal Navy, and are very familiar with the importance of stewarding an indelible history,” said Stanley Birge, vice president, Cunard, North America.

“A very significant part of Cunard’s history is our unique connection to the military, as Cunard ships have answered the call of Great Britain in every major conflict from Crimea in 1853 to the first Gulf War in 1990.”

Cunard will again host the National Museum of the Royal Navy for a similar event later this year on board flagship Queen Mary 2 in New York.
