Promises High Action, Bold Adventures Via Expedition Boat

– Bushwhacking in Alaskan backcountry, a glacier trek and extended
kayaking in ice-filled fjords and wilderness bays are on the menu for
outdoor enthusiasts eager to discover Southeast Alaska’s remote beauty
on an adventure cruise with InnerSea Discoveries.
On three Alaska Unleashed departures in summer 2013, the Wilderness Adventurer
guest capacity is slashed from 60 to 36 guests for an amped up week of
high adventure. Guests booked by January 11, 2013 receive a $100
shipboard credit per person.
Meant
for active travelers who are happiest spending all day outside on
full-day adventures, the line recommends that guests choosing an
Unleashed departure engage in regular weekly physical activities equal
to 25 mile bike rides or 5 mile runs/hikes.
Sailing
between Juneau and Ketchikan, Alaska and reverse, weeklong Alaska
Unleashed Adventures depart on June 8, July 13 and August 10, 2013. Each
departure features a regional expert on board for special
presentations.

“We
are heeding the call to offer exclusive departures for those adventure
seekers who want to go farther, longer and explore deeper into Alaska’s
wilderness on multi-sport adventures,” said Tim Jacox, executive vice
president of sales and marketing. “This is our boldest adventure yet.”
Areas
explored include Endicott Arm within Tracy Arm-Fords Terror Wilderness
Area, Stephen’s Passage, Frederick Sound, Thomas Bay, Baird Glacier,
Behm Canal, Revillagigedo Island and miles of remote shoreline.
Expedition guides lead all explorations off the boat and provide
interpretation along the way.
Each
day offers multi-sport adventures via foot or by kayak. Snorkeling
excursions will also be offered and included in the cruise fare. Other
outdoor activities include stand up paddle boarding, skiff excursions
and polar bear plunges. A flexible itinerary allows time for seeking out
whales, bears and other wildlife.
On
each departure, guests enjoy an included excursion to a bear
observatory. Guests hike in approximately a mile to the observatory and
stand within yards of bears feeding in their natural habitat. Another
highlight of the trip is a half-day or full-day trek on Baird Glacier.
Guests opting for the extended day-long trek should bring their own
crampons. In Thomas Bay, two hikes venture deep into the backcountry.
The steep and rugged Cascade Creek hike ends at Swan Lake with a 1,200
elevation gain in five miles. The gentler but longer Patterson Lake
trail is a 10 mile roundtrip hike to Patterson River where guests find
kayaks waiting to paddle into the lake to the foot of Patterson Glacier.
After
a full day of adventure, guests may enjoy a soak in the hot tub and a
complimentary massage. Yoga classes take place on deck each morning.
The boat also has fitness equipment and a large resource/DVD library.
An underwater camera mounted on the ship’s bow streams video from the
underwater world to flatscreen televisions in all guest rooms and the
lounge. Healthy and hearty meals feature fresh ingredients including
locally caught Alaskan seafood. A 2:1 guest to crew ratio for these
three departures ensures attentive service and extra guide staff.
Cruise fares start at
US$5,595 per person based on double occupancy. Cruise rates include
transfers and all activities except optional excursions. Port fees of
